Women's Swimming Wins Tri-Meet; Defeats Pitt-Bradford, Wells

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving defeated Pitt-Bradford 108-39 and Wells 107-62 in non-conference tri-meet on Saturday evening.

The Lions won every event they were able to earn points. Three swimmers had two individual wins each including Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte), who also swam on a winning relay to give her three victories on the day.

She won the 200 IM (2:19.92) and then immediately won the 200 butterfly in 2:29.67.

Lacey Grinnen (Warren, PA/Warren) was a double winner in the distance events. She won the 1000 freestyle by a two-minute margin at 12:41.07 and then captured the 500 free in 6:08.03.

The third double individual winner was Paola Maldonado (San Juan, Puerto Rico). She won the 50 and 100 freestyle. In the 50, she touched the wall in 26.34 and in the 100 she won in 57.70.

Lowery also joined Abigail Witmer (Herndon, VA/Herndon), Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) and Devon van Rensburg (Johannesburg, South Africa/Crawford) for first place in the 400 medley relay in 4:35.58. In addition to the relay, Horn was third in the 50 free (27.04).

Witmer also took first place in the 200 backstroke (2:27.57) and Jessica Rettger (Bradford, PA/Bradford Area) was second (2:42.88).

In the 200 freestyle, Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois) led the Lions to a first-place finish in 2:07.96 and also was second in the 100 freestyle behind Maldonado by .20.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday at Penn State Altoona, beginning at 1 p.m.
