Women's Tennis Competes for AMCC Championship This Weekend

ERIE, Pa. – The Behrend women's tennis team will face No. 3 Pitt-Greensburg in the semifinals of 2014 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships at Westwood Racquet Club on Saturday.

The No. 2 Lions (8-3, 7-1 AMCC) square off with the Bobcats (7-6, 6-2 AMCC) in the second semifinal match of the tournament, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Top-seeded Franciscan (10-1, 8-0) will take on No. 4 Penn State Altoona (7-8, 5-3 AMCC) in the first semifinal at 1 p.m.

The two semifinal winners will play for the AMCC title on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. The AMCC champion will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament

Behrend is looking for its 13th overall championship and second straight AMCC crown. The Lions only conference loss this season was a 5-4 decision to No. 1 seed Franciscan. Behrend is led by sophomores Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) and Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst).

Laffey finished the regular-conference season with an undefeated mark in singles play (8-0), while going 10-1 overall. Laffey and Czerwinski have teamed up for a 7-1 AMCC record in doubles play at the No. 1 spot.
