Clapper Serves Behrend Past Hilbert

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball won their first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) match, defeating Hilbert 3-0 on Tuesday night.

The Lions (7-10, 1-2 AMCC) improve to 14-0 all-time against the Hawks (1-16, 0-5 AMCC). Freshman Madison Clapper (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) set a season high with 10 aces. Amanda Henry (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) led with seven kills (.353) and Keely Hering (North East, PA/North East) added eight digs and three aces.

Behrend did not get through an entire rotation in the first set to win 25-6. Hering served seven straight points to break a 2-all tie for a 9-2 lead. Kylie McSwaney (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem) took over and recorded four aces to help the Lions jump ahead 20-4. The final three points were won on Hilbert errors for a 1-0 lead in the match.

Clapper tallied six of her 10 aces in the second set to start and build an 11-0 lead. The Lions were able to get 18 points with only giving up one and eventually win 25-8. It was Clapper's serving once again in the third set that turned a 9-8 lead into a 21-8 advantage with 11 consecutive points. Henry added two kills and McSwaney tallied one to end the third set, 25-12.

Hannah Saunders (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) dished out 14 assists to go with seven digs, three aces and one block.
