Lions Defend Title

ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend women's cross country team won the Behrend Invitational for the second straight year on Saturday morning.

Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) led the way for the Lions in their second meet of the year.  The junior was the top Division III runner at 19:43.7 for third place. 

First-year runner Victoria Harwood (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) placed fifth in her first event of the season.  Harwood crossed the line at 20:26.6.  Haley Hughes (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) was close behind in sixth place at 20:28.1. 

Rounding out the Behrend top-five was Katie Spade (Warren, PA/Warren) and Katie Patterson (Erie, PA/Villa Maria) in ninth and 10th place respectively.  Spade came in with a time of 20:45.8 while Patterson finished in 20:48.9.

The Lions edged Division II Gannon by six points to keep the title.

Behrend will be back in action on September 29, at the Dickinson Invitational.  Start time is set for 11 a.m.
