Two members of the Behrend Lion baseball team were named as both the AMCC and ECAC South Player and Pitcher of the week.  The blue and white went 7-1 on their spring training trip to Florida.  The Behrend Lions were led by the pitcher of the week David Koerbel (Pittsburgh, PA/Central Catholic) and the player of the week Jonathan Gray (State College, PA/State College).

Koerbel, also named as the pre-season pitcher of the year, began his senior year with a complete game victory over Kenyon.  He pitched great in the 5-2 win, giving up no earned runs, three hits, one walk and sat down six Kenyon batters.  In his second outing Koerbel would not need the 16 runs the blue and white put up as he would strikeout nine, walk none, give up three hits and an earned run. Koerbel now holds the Behrend record for most career strikeouts with 183.

The Behrend Lions would tally 89 runs, 117 hits, 17 doubles, four triples and seven homeruns on the trip to Florida.  Gray would lead the way for the blue and white. Gray batted .545 through eight games and would reach base safely in every game. He went 18-33 overall with 14 RBI and 14 runs scored. His hit total included four doubles, a triple, and a home run. The junior was also perfect in all six stolen base attempts. Gray would collect five walks and never struck out. Gray's highlight effort came against Juniata, where he hit for the cycle and recorded seven RBI.

The blue and white will be on the road this weekend as they begin AMCC play against Frostburg State.  The Behrend Lions will have their first game on the Behrend diamond on March 25 against Medaille College.
