Behrend Men Pick Up Routine AMCC Win Over Pitt-Greensburg

On Saturday, January 2, the Behrend Lions men's basketball team opened 2010 on a positive note and cruised to an 80-51 AMCC win over Pitt-Greensburg in the Junker Center.

Behrend opened the game with a 7-1 run behind seven straight points from Chris Saltzman (Pittsburgh/Pittsburgh Central Catholic). Then at the 11:28 mark of the first half, Nick Colella's (New Castle/New Castle) lay-in plus a made free-throw expanded Behrend's lead to 21-5. The Bobcats could not close the gap as the blue and white took a 42-23 advantage into the break. Colella led Behrend with 13 first half points on 5-of-6 from the field.

For the game, Behrend connected on 54% from the floor and 81% at the line, while the Bobcats were restricted to making 36% of their attempts to go along with 14 turnovers. Freshman Russ Conley (Transfer/Reynolds) was 7 x 10 from the field for a game-high 17 points, Colella added 16, while Saltzman and Adam Potter (Pittsburgh/Mt. Lebanon) chipped in 11. Josh Kucenic led Pitt-Greensburg with 16 points.

With the victory, the blue and white improves to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the league, while the Bobcats fall to 5-6 and 3-3 in AMCC play. Next up for the Behrend Lions will be another AMCC home game on Wednesday, January 6, when the Pitt-Bradford (3-7, 3-2) Panthers travel to Erie for an 8:00 p.m. tip off.
