Softball Defeats Kenyon; Falls to Wilmington

FORT MYERS, Fl. – The Penn State Behrend softball team posted a 2-0 victory over Kenyon in the first game and then fell to Wilmington 2-0 in the nightcap to split a pair of games over spring break at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.

Mirrissa Parker (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) scored both runs for the Lions (3-5) in the first and the fourth, while getting a double on her only hit in the win over Kenyon. Leah Griffin (Springboro, PA/Conneaut Valley) went 2-for-4 including a double to send Parker home in the opening inning.

With two outs in the fourth, Parker doubled to right center and then scored on an error for the final run of the game. Kelsey Fuller (Albion, PA/ Northwestern) went the distance to get the win. She struck out five, allowed just five hits and did not allow a run in the shut out.

In the second game, Wilmington waited until the fifth inning to break the scoreless tie with a pair of runs and held on for the win.

Callie Markovich (Edinboro, PA/Northwestern) posted the lone hit for the Lions. Julie Heinl (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) faced 24 batters and allowed two runs on six hits, while walking one for the loss.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow against WPI and Eastern Nazarene. The first game begins at 9 a.m.
