Grove City Uses Second Half To Nip Lions

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Grove City women's soccer team scored two goals in the second half, one on a penalty kick, to defeat Penn State Behrend 2-1 in non-conference action on Thursday.

After a scoreless first half, the Wolverines (7-0-1) relied on a pair of goals within six minutes of each other to hold off the Lions (1-6) and record their seventh. straight victory

Grace Reiman converted the first penalty kick taken on Taylor Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) in the 56th minute, before Chelsea Tarolli blasted a shot from the right wing and into the left corner off a pass from Sarah Cessar at the 62:56 mark for a 2-0 advantage.

Less than three minutes later, Melissa Huff (Center, PA/Central Valley) netted her first collegiate goal to get Behrend on the board however the Lions could not find the equalizer in the final 24 minutes.

Grove City managed to score two goals on 19 shots, including 12 in the second half. Behrend fired off five shots and were edged in corner kicks, 12-3.

Troyan finished with six saves in goal for the Lions.

Behrend opens conference play at Franciscan on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
