Women's Tennis To Face La Roche in AMCC Semifinals

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team will face No. 3 La Roche in the semifinals of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships at The Club/Sport & Health in Monroeville, PA on Saturday.

The No. 2 Lions (10-1, 7-1 AMCC) will take on the Redhawks (8-4, 5-3 AMCC) in the second semifinal match beginning at 5 p.m. The first semifinal match-up has No. 1 seed Franciscan (10-4, 8-0 AMCC) facing off against the No. 4 seed Penn State Altoona (6-5, 5-3 AMCC) at 3 p.m.

The two semifinal winners will battle for the AMCC title and the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The final takes place at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Behrend is looking to capture their 14th overall title crown and back-to-back championships. The Lions defeated the Redhawks during the regular season 7-2 and suffered their only loss to Franciscan, 5-4.  

Behrend is led by Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) at No. 1 singles and doubles. She is undefeated in conference play at 8-0 for both singles and doubles. Jacqueline Cannella (Bradford Woods, PA/North Allegheny) completes the duo at No. 1 doubles. She is 6-2 at No. 2 singles in AMCC competition and 8-3 overall.

Celeste Bentley (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) and Kelly Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) are also undefeated in conference action at 8-0 playing at No. 3 and No. 5 singles.
