Czerwinski Named 2016 AMCC Women's Tennis Player of the Year

ERIE, Pa. – Chelsea Czerwinski (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) was named the 2016 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Player of the Year, headlining the women's tennis All-Conference team announced on Thursday.

The Lions also had three other members named to the All-AMCC squad, including Celeste Bentley (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek), Kelly Miller (Louisville, OH/Louisville) and Jacqueline Cannella (Bradford Woods, PA/North Allegheny).

Behrend had three singles players and one doubles duo make the first team.

Czerwinski was named First-Team All-AMCC at No. 1 singles and doubles this season. The senior earned Player of the Year honors for going undefeated at the top spot for both singles (8-0) and doubles (8-0). Czerwinski was named AMCC Athlete of the Week once and garnered ECAC Athlete of the Month accolades. She has an overall 12-1 record at No. 1 singles and a perfect 13-0 mark at No. 1 doubles with teammate Cannella.

Cannella, the 2015 AMCC Newcomer of the Year, not only was named to the first team for No. 1 doubles but she earned second-team honors at No. 2 singles. The sophomore tallied a 6-2 record in conference play at the No. 2 singles spot and finished 8-4 overall.

Bentley and Miller also had perfect records in conference play at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively, to be named to the first team in those flights. Bentley had three shut-out victories in conference play (6-0, 6-0), while Miller tallied two matches without giving up a set.
