Lions Travel to Kenyon College

GAMBIER, Oh. – The Penn State Behrend women's track and field team competed at the Kenyon College Classic on Saturday afternoon.

In the 5000 meter run, the Lions finished 1, 2, and 3 as Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) finished first (18:43), Haley Hughes (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) finished second (18:49.50), and Katie Manno (Erie, PA/McDowell) came in third (18:56.62). Bertges' time qualifies the senior for ECAC's.

But that would just be the start of what turned out to be an impressive afternoon for Behrend.

Paige Allen (Butler, PA/Butler) broke two of her own Behrend indoor records.  The freshman did so by winning the 200 meter dash with an ECAC qualifying time of 26.62 and winning the 60m dash with an ECAC qualifying time of 7.94 seconds.

In the pole vault, Franki DiSalvo (Erie, PA/McDowell) carded a fifth place finish with a distance of 3.20 meters.

The Lions team of DiSalvo, Allen, Manno, and Abby Gilmore (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) posted a second place in the 4X400 meter relay. The group finished at 4:08.60, qualifing for ECAC's and narrowly missing a Behrend record.

Katie Boehmer (McDonald, PA/South Fayette) came in fourth in the high jump, going 1.42 meters.

Gilmore later finished ninth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:06.22

The Lions now hope that today's success will carry over into the 2014 ECAC Indoor Championships, which will be held on March 7 and 8 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Roxbury Crossing, Massachusetts.
