Erie, Pa. – Penn State Behrend sophomore MaryEllen Spooner has been named a 2011 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-American for the second straight season.

Spooner earned All-American honorable-mention status at the two-meter position. She almost doubled her goals from a year ago, scoring a team-best 42 and dishing out 11 assists. Spooner also recorded 47 steals and 30 drawn kickouts.  She broke the school record for most goals in a game on two occasions, setting the record with nine goals against Notre Dame.

Spooner was recognized as CWPA Varsity Division III Player of the Week and was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player.

She is the first-ever women’s water polo player to be named a two-time All-American.
