Jake Hordych concluded his career as one of the finest men’s soccer goalies in Penn State Behrend history. Hordych was honored with the Herb Lauffer Leadership/Scholarship award as a sophomore and earned All-AMCC accolades three straight seasons. A team captain, he set the career record for both games played and shutouts, and 10 years later is still ranked second in each category. Hordych is also fourth in career saves with 382.

Learning from Hall of Fame goalie Tommy Sieg his freshman year, Hordych stepped into the starting role his sophomore year. He had five shutouts in 20 games, making 130 saves and earning the respect of his peers to be given the Herb Lauffer Leadership/Scholarship award. Hordych also was an All-AMCC second-team choice.

Hordych turned in another outstanding season during his junior year. He recorded 151 saves for the fourth-most saves in a single season. Playing in every game, Hordych helped the Lions take second overall in the conference and repeated on the All-Conference second team. He added five more shutouts to his resume, putting him six away from breaking the all-time record.

Saving his best for last, in 2003 Hordych turned in a brilliant senior campaign. In the 21 games played, he shut out nine opponents to give him a total of 19 and the program record. He tallied a 0.90 goals-against average to lead the team and conference, while making 93 saves. Hordych’s final shutout of the season came in the AMCC Championship game to give the Lions the title.

Hordych graduated first in career games played (67) and his 382 saves stands as the fourth best in program history.
