Isiah Meek '06

Isiah Meek set the standards for the men’s track and field teams from 2002-2005. Meek turned in two of the greatest hurdling displays in school history, breaking the outdoor 110m hurdles record as a junior and the indoor 55m hurdles record in his senior year. He qualified multiple times in several events for the ECAC Championships, including his record-breaking and NCAA provisional mark in the 110m hurdles (14.76). His dominance earned him team MVP honors for both indoor and outdoor track & field in 2005, before being named the Behrend Male Athlete of the Year.

Ten years after his graduation from Behrend, Meek remains the track and field program’s fastest sprint hurdler. In his sophomore year, he gained instant recognition by breaking the 55m hurdle record for the first time. He continues to be a benchmark for student-athletes to strive toward.

In track and field’s infancy as a varsity sport, Meek wore the Behrend uniform to race against and beat a former Olympic Gold medalist (Roger Kingdom) at Slippery Rock. That same meet, he broke the 55m hurdle record and qualified for the ECAC Championships. Meek’s gold and silver medal count accumulated throughout his sophomore season which brought him All-ECAC honors in the 4x100 relay and 110m hurdles, earning him seventh-place finishes in both events.

He was All-ECAC in each of his four outdoor seasons in the 110m hurdles, including a silver-medal finish as a junior. In addition to the hurdles, Meek led the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams to the ECAC Championships. That same year, he set the 110m hurdles record with a time of 14.76 – an NCAA qualifying mark.

As a senior in 2005, Meek earned All-ECAC honors with a second-place finish at the indoor championships in the 55m hurdles. On March 4 at the Mount Union Invitational, he asserted his dominance by placing himself in the record books for a final time in the 55m hurdles with an NCAA provisional time of 7.74. In the outdoor season, Meek qualified for the ECAC Championships in three events. He placed fifth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.90, while the 4x100 relay members had their best time of the season at 44.04 for 11th place.

Meek still holds the 10 fastest 110m hurdle times ever by a Behrend athlete and seven of the Top 10 55m hurdle marks, which earned him team MVP and Male Athlete of the Year honors.
