Stephanie Bowen Curren '06

Stephanie Bowen Curren was the defensive backbone for the women’s soccer team from 2002-2006. She amassed a rare feat of being named to the All-Conference first team and starting in all but one game all four years. Bowen was also the AMCC Rookie of the Year and finished with Team MVP and a Great Lakes All-Region nod.

Bowen did not need statistical recognition for her impact to be felt throughout the women’s soccer program. As a freshman, her tenacity and strong physical presence landed her a starting spot at the center of the Lions’ defense to garner All-AMCC recognition, including Rookie of the Year. She continued to ply her trade in the back line and Behrend continued to improve.

During her sophomore year, the Lions won 12 games, four more than the previous year and tallied a 5-1 conference mark. The defense notched 10 shutouts and Bowen was selected to the All-AMCC first team for the second straight season.

The 2004 season proved to be better yet with Bowen anchoring the defense. The Lions posted 11 shutouts in 14 victories and tallied an 8-1 AMCC record. The leader in the backfield also found her way into the offense with her first collegiate goal. Bowen led Behrend to its fourth ECAC Tournament appearance, while capping the season with additional All-AMCC first-team and Team MVP honors.

The script was similar in 2005 as Behrend matched the total wins with 14 and went undefeated in conference play while the defense posted an astounding 0.71 goals-against average. Bowen was the key element in helping the Lions post 10 shutouts and return to the ECAC Tournament after falling in the AMCC Championships by penalty kicks.

The senior captain was named All-AMCC and third-team All-Region.
