2005 Women's Volleyball

The Penn State Behrend women’s volleyball team made history in 2005. The Lions captured their second AMCC Championship and made the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Behrend was crowned AMCC Regular- Season Champions with an undefeated 9-0 mark in conference play. The Lions finished with a 26-8 overall record, the third-best record in program history.

Earning a first-round bye and hosting rights for the AMCC Tournament, Behrend defeated No. 4 seed Pitt-Bradford 3-1 (30-32, 30-11, 30-12, 30-25) to advance to the championship match against Penn State Altoona. The Lions posted a 3-0 decision over Altoona (30-19, 32-30, 30-26) to earn the conference crown and the AMCC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Behrend swept the AMCC honors this year. Elaine Voltz was named Player of the Year, Brittany Hennessy was selected Newcomer of the Year and head coach Phil Pisano earned Coach of the Year. As a team, the Lions led the conference in kills (1,586), assists (1,503), digs (2,193) and blocks (256).
