Anne Lawrence was one of the most decorated athletes at Behrend in swimming and water polo. She was named Female Athlete of the Year in 2012, along with earning NCAA All-American honors in water polo in her senior year. She was captain of the Behrend women’s swimming and diving and the water polo teams in her senior year.

Most elite athletes master one sport. Lawrence exhibited unique traits and strong, admirable characteristics that helped her succeed in both water polo and swimming.

A spitfire, standing at 5’2”, she excelled in water polo after only playing it for the first time when she arrived at Behrend. In her senior year, Lawrence was second on the team with 43 steals and 22 assists, while netting 13 goals.

Successful athletes have an inner desire to succeed but Lawrence’s natural talent also provided leadership and discipline to her teammates in two sports.

In addition to leadership, she used her determination to set five team records while being named AMCC Swimmer of the Year in 2010 and 2011 and capturing MVP honors twice (2011-2012). In water polo, Lawrence was named Newcomer of the Year in 2009 and earned the Leadership Award in 2012.

Her name can still be seen on the wall in the Junker Pool under the records for the 200 butterfly and the 200 medley relay.

Lawrence resides in Bethel Park, Pa., where she coaches swimming at Bethel Park. Her husband and Penn State Behrend graduate Andrew Sekulski, are the proud parents of two girls, Edith and Alice.
