Kate Monoskey set four school records and was a two-time Athlete of the Year for the Penn State Behrend women’s track and field team from 2008-12. She was a 10-time Mason Dixon All-Conference performer and a two-time Conference Champion. Monoskey was a two-time Rookie of the Year, and a two-time Team MVP while earning Mason Dixon Field Athlete of the Year in 2011 and the Behrend Academic Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2012.

Monosky was called "Champ" by her teammates, and that's about as fitting a description as you can have for the thrower. She was a leader and wanted her teammates to be successful.

She was the first woman to throw the hammer, set the Behrend record and then improve on her own record, which still stands today, more than 10 years later.

She was the first of a series of very successful “Katie's,” or should we say “Champs,” in the Behrend track and field program. Her secret trick to her trade was being the only athlete to fully convince everyone on the spring break trip to divert 1000+ miles just to get to Disney World.

Her talents shined beyond the field. Monoskey was a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, a member of the Student Government Association and a member of Behrend’s “secret” society that everyone knows about.

At the time of graduation, she held the records in the weight throw, indoor shot put, discus and hammer throws. Monoskey continued to impact the program, spending three years as an assistant coach and guiding the throwers to three school records.

Monoskey resides in Carnegie, Pa., and is the senior manager in data science at Thermo Fisher Scientific.
