Lions Defeat Medaille for Season Sweep

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's basketball team defeated conference-rival Medaille 64-55 on Wednesday evening in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action.

After suffering three losses to the Mavericks a year ago, the Lions (14-6, 10-3 AMCC) completed the season sweep with the help of 14 points from Russ Conley (Transfer, PA/Reynolds) and Shane Skelly (Westlake, OH/Westlake)

Behrend raced out to a 15-2 lead through the game's first seven minutes.  Keith Wallace (Erie, PA/Central Tech) led the offensive outburst with six early points.  The Lions, who never trailed in the opening stanza, held a nine-point lead at the break.

In the second half, Medaille started to close the gap.  After eight straight Behrend points by Skelly and a layup by Wallace, the Lions were up by eight at the 10:19 mark.  The Mavericks found some life on the offensive end though, scoring nine in a row for their first lead of the game.

The Lions got the lead right back after Nick DeLisio (Aliquippa, PA/Central Valley) cashed in two from the free throw line.  Conley added two consecutive layups, but Behrend was still only up by three.  Over the final two minutes of the game Behrend came up clutch from the charity stripe. Four different Lions combined to go 10-of-12 from the line to clinch the victory.

The Lions' defense held the AMCC three point leaders to just 18.2 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

Conley and Skelly led all scorers with Wallace contributing 10 points.

Behrend will be back in action on Saturday to host Franciscan at 4 p.m.
