Lions Fall To Hilbert

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Penn State Behrend men's basketball team fell to Hilbert 63-50 on Wednesday evening in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action.

Despite leading at the break, the Lions (16-8, 12-5) were outscored by 14 in the second half and suffered their second consecutive loss.

Russ Conley (Transfer, PA/Reynolds) led Behrend with 24 points and 10 rebounds.  The senior center shot a sizzling 10-of-13 from the field and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the line.

The Lions trailed 21-16 with less than five minutes to play in the opening stanza, but ended the half on an 8-2 run to take a one-point lead at intermission.

With the second half underway, the two teams continued to trade buckets.  At the 9:28 mark, Rob Zewe (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) connected on two free throws to cut the Hawks' lead to just two.  Over the next six minutes though, Hilbert started to take control.  The Hawks pushed their lead to as many as 12 with three minutes to go, and hit 7-of-8 from the charity stripe down the stretch to ice the game.

Behrend will be back in action on Saturday.  The Lions will host Penn State Altoona at 4 p.m. in the regular season finale.
