Seven Players Tally to Lead the Lions Against Franciscan

Steubenville, OH. – The Penn State Behrend men’s soccer team defeated Franciscan Saturday 7-0, to mark the programs third straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) win.

The Lions (7-2-3, 3-0 AMCC) where no strangers to the Baron (1-9-1, 1-2-1 AMCC) goalie David Almeida as the men netted 7 of the 13 shots put on goal. In the 12th minute of play, Aaron Meehl, on a ball played by Jake Gamble, tallied to give Behrend a 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later Brian Bodnar’s unassisted goal gave the men a quick 2-0 edge, and they wouldn’t stop there. The Lions posted two more scores in the first half, Lance Sabol’s goal from CJ Burger in the 33rd minute and Eric Hackworth’s self-served goal in the 38th.

The second half would begin just as the first half ended with more Behrend goals. CJ Burger’s return to the score sheet came from a great unassisted shot 22 minutes into the half that extended the lead to 5-0. Garrett Ficus and Jake Szul together with a pair of goals propelled the lead to an astonishing 7-0 Lions' advantage.

Chris Bolea had another perfect game in which he posted six saves to help the Lions blank the Fransciscan Barons.

With the win, head coach Dan Perritano earned his 200th victory with the men's program. He entered the season with 193 wins.

The Lions will return to the pitch against conference rival Pitt-Bradford Tuesday, October 12. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
