ERIE, PA – The Penn State Behrend men’s soccer team advances to its 11th Allegheny Mountiain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) championship game after defeating La Roche 5-0 Wednesday.

The Lions (14-2-3) scored three goals in the first half. Just 33 seconds into the game, Lance Sabol connected on a long cross sent by Michael Liebdzinski to put the men ahead 1-nil. The second goal came by way of a double assist. Jerry Tortella’s throw in found up with Aaron Meehl who passed directly to Jake Gamble who hammered down a header to give the Lions a two goal advantage. Behrend’s final goal of the half was a deflection off a La Roche defender for an own goal at the 42:10 mark.

The second half, just like the first half, belonged to the Lions. CJ Burger and Jake Szul scored the final goals for the men. Burger’s tally came at the 78:27 mark and Szul’s goal off a Ryan Banks pass found the back of the net 30 seconds later.

The men continue to play great defense, the blanking of the Redhawks marks their 5th consecutive shut out.

Behrend will face Medaille in the AMCC championship game Saturday November 6, at Gannon Univeristy, beginning at 2 p.m. This will be the fourth year in a row that the two teams will meet in the finals.
