Behrend Clinches Top Seed in Playoffs

Cresson, PA – The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team clinched the top seed in the 2010 AMCC playoffs with a 6-0 win over Mt. Aloysius Saturday. It marks the second time in program history the Lions earned the No. 1 seed.

The game winner was scored by Jake Gamble thanks to a Mike Liebdzinski cross in the 11th minute of play. Just 10 minutes later Jerry Tortella scored his 32nd career goal to tie for first place in the Behrend history books. His tally gave the Lions (12-2-3, 8-0 AMCC) a 2-0 lead.

The Mounties (1-17, 0-8 AMCC) could not stop the Behrend pursuit as the men would go on to net three additional goals before the half.  Eric Hackworth led the way with an unassisted goal in the 29th minute. Next to score was Cory Hamilton thanks to a great pass by Garret Fiscuss just four minutes later. The final goal of the half was set up by a beautiful Hamilton dish to Ryan Banks, who found the back of the net to put the Lions up 5-0.

Hamilton's monster play continued in the second half. Cory connected with Eric Vunovic to seal the deal at 6-nil in the 75th minute of regulation.

Behrend's defense posted yet another shutout, the Lions held the Mt. Aloysius Mounties to zero shots on goal.

On Wednesday, the men will head to D'Youville to play in their final regular-season game. The match is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
