Penn State Behrend's Men's Basketball Moves Into First Place Tie

Penn State Behrend's men's basketball squad picked up an important league win on Thursday night against the La Roche Redhawks in the Junker Center in front of 344 fans.

Behrend's offense skipped along to a 5-0 start to begin the game and earned a well executed twenty-five point win. Now, Behrend, La Roche, Frostburg, and Medaille are all tied at 6-3 in the AMCC.

At the 11:37 mark of the first twenty minutes, Chris Saltzman's (Jefferson Hills/Central Catholic) spinning drive and one, produced a 13-2 Behrend lead. During this run the Behrend squad, which ranks atop the AMCC in scoring defense, held the Redhawks to a 2-for-13 shooting performance.

With time winding down and only two seconds remaining on the clock, Behrend's Steve Piotrowicz's (Erie/Cathedral Prep) deep three-pointer paved the way for a 33-16 halftime lead. Behrend scored on 13-of-23 from the floor, while La Roche could only manage to hit 28% of their attempts. 

In the second period, La Roche could not getting closer than 19 as Behrend cruised 67-42 and created a log jam in the AMCC standings with four teams tied for first-place. Both Behrend and the Redhawks have produced identical 10-6 overall records.

Adam Potter (Pittsburgh/Mt. Lebanon) led the scoring with 24 points on nine-of-fourteen shooting. He also hauled down six boards, while Adam Kaiser (Erie/Cathedral Prep) added 15 markers. La Roche was led by ten points from Steve Lucas.

The men are back in action on Saturday, January 24 when the blue and white play a 3:00 p.m. game against conference opponent Frostburg State (9-7, 6-3).
