Behrend Track & Field Teams Rack Up Points at Wheeling Jesuit Invitational

The Penn State Behrend men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Bill Van Horne Invitational at Wheeling Jesuit University on March 26 and 27 with each team putting up solid team scores.  The Behrend men’s team finished fourth out of 14 teams with a team score of 90 points, while the Behrend women’s team finished ninth out of 17 teams with a team score of 40.7 points.

Denny Kang (South Park/South Park) set a new school record and posted an ECAC qualifying mark in the pole vault clearing a height of 4.69 meters.  Teammate Eston Winn (Erie/McDowell) finished second in the event with a mark of 4.40 meters.  Ronson Mazany (Ashville, NY/Panama Central) took first place in the triple jump with a leap of 13.35 meters, finished second in the long jump soaring 6.69 meters, and went 1.85 meters in the high jump, which was good for third place.  Mike Johnson (Clearfield/Clearfield Area) also cleared 1.85 meters in the high jump for a fourth place finish.  Mike Stark (Gibsonia/Pine-Richland) had an excellent weekend competing in the decathlon, taking first place with 5649 event points.  Steel Flynn (Butler/Butler) took fourth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:29.46.

For the women, Jenna Fatica (Erie/Villa Maria) took third place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:20.97.  Victoria Harwood (Fair Haven/Rumson-Fair Haven) finished second in the heptathlon, racking up 3147 event points.  Tanisha Wheatley (Saltsburg/Kiski) took third in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:55.12.  Kylie Swanson (Hermitage/Hickory) earned a fifth place finish in the pole vault by clearing 2.90 meters. 

The Penn State Behrend track and field teams are back in action April 9 at the Bucknell Invitational.
