Women's Soccer Closes Out AMCC Regular Season With Tough 3-2 Loss

The Behrend Lions (6-10-1, 5-3) entered the day one game behind the Medaille Mavericks (9-8, 6-2) in the league standings with an AMCC first-round tournament game up for grabs.

When 90 minutes was completed the Mavericks worked their way to an AMCC home game via a 3-2 result on the Behrend Fields. Behrend outshot Medaille 23-5, but the Mavericks capitalized on three of its five shots on goal.

Medaille's Laura Freeman connected at the 16:40 mark of the first half off a pass from Danielle Radlich to start the scoring. Seven minutes later the lead went to 2-0 after Radlich took a Katie Bush pass to the back of the net.

At 28:16 Behrend's Heather Klimuszka (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) scored off an assist from Lindsey Steinsdoerfer (Pittsburgh/North Hills) to make it 2-1. Several saves were made by Medaille's goalkeeper, Mattea Haessner, including two shots that hit the bar and another that was refuted by a Maverick defender between the pipes, that sent the blue and white to the break down one.

Freeman then scored her second goal of the contest to make it 3-1 at the 52:22 mark in the second 45 minutes. Then senior Nikki Frisbee (Valencia/Mars) hit a rebounded shot into the net as the final stood 3-2.

After capturing two straight AMCC titles, the blue and white are now 5-4 in league play and will travel this weekend to compete in the conference tournament as the five seed. Depending on outcomes of games this week, Behrend could travel to Frostburg, La Roche or Medaille for 2:00 p.m. game.
