Behrend Lions Women's Soccer Wins 2009 AMCC Regular Season Title

The Penn State Behrend women's soccer locked up the 2009 AMCC regular season championship with an 8-0 win over the visiting D'Youville Spartans.

Behrend's Heather Klimuszka (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) scored three goals on the day. Also contributing goals on Tuesday were three freshmen Valerie Wagner (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour), Meredith Gipson (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional), Danielle Pelensky (Erie, PA/Harborcreek), and sophomore Erin McCreary (Pittsburgh, PA/Seton-LaSalle).

Behrend is 13-2-3 on the season wins the AMCC regular season title with a
9-0-1 record. "We are happy to have clinched the number one seed and home field for the playoffs," said sixth year head coach Patrick O'Driscoll. "It is always our goal to win the championship and we have put ourselves in a good position up to this point. But we will have some very challenging games coming up in the playoffs. We will have to be at our best."

With the win, the blue and white earn the only first round bye in the conference tournament which opens on Saturday, October 31. Behrend will then play the winner of the four seed versus five seed game on Wednesday, November 4 on the Behrend Fields at a time to be announced. The AMCC Finals are set for Saturday, November 7 at the highest remaining seed.

The Behrend Lions have won six of the twelve AMCC women's soccer titles and most recently captured league crowns in 2006 and 2007.
