Penn State Behrend Claims Four AMCC Athletes of the Week -- September 7, 2009

The Behrend Lions claimed four AMCC Player of the Week honors. The league office announces selections each Monday throughout the season.

Erin McCreary (Pittsburgh/Seton LaSalle) was selected as the women's soccer player of the week. McCreary paced the blue and white to a 3-0 start with a three goal week. She scored both goals in a 2-0 win over W & J, and netted another in a 4-0 victory against Juniata.

Dustin Walker (Apollo/Kiski) was named the men's goalkeeper of the week. Walker led Behrend to its first Lauffer Tournament title in five years and was named the tournament MVP. Walker recorded two shutouts in a 2-0-1 week, making eight saves and allowing just one goal.

For the men's golf team, senior Joe Nelson (Warren/Warren) led the Behrend Lions to the Pitt-Bradford Invitational title. Nelson carded a 73 to place fourth overall at the event. Behrend outshot 13 teams to take the tournament honors.

Kevin Gorny (Erie/McDowell) Gorny led the race from start to finish at the Westminster Invitational, and outdistanced the the nearest collegiate competitor by over 21 seconds.  He covered the 8K course in a time of 26:52, besting 113 other runners.  This is the second time in three seasons that the Behrend men have won this title.
