Wagner and Thill Earn ECAC All-Star Selections

The Penn State Behrend women's soccer team earned a pair of ECAC All-Star selections for the 2009 season.  Freshman Valerie Wagner (Pittsburgh/Montour) and junior Kelly Thill (Wexford/Pine Richland) were both named to the 2009 ECAC Women's Soccer All-Star teams.  Wagner was named to the first team while Thill was selected to the second.

Wagner blasted onto the scene in her first year for the blue and white and performed spectacular.  Wagner was tied for the lead in goals (8), led the team in assists (5) and racked up the most points with 21.  Wagner ranked high in AMCC statistics in categories including, goals, shots, and points.

Thill played tremendously on the Behrend defense all year long.  She started every game this season and continued to prevent opponents from getting a clean look at the goal.  Thill would lead a team that would be recognized as one of the best teams in the Great Lakes Region.

"This is a great reward for both Kelly and Valerie," said AMCC Coach of the Year Patrick O' Driscoll.  "For this being Valerie's first year in the program, she exceeded expectations and will be a key player for years to come."  Coach O' Driscoll credits Thill as being a mainstay in the Behrend defense.  "Kelly is a great defender who has a knack for finding the ball.  She is always in the right place and will only continue to get better."  Both Thill and Wagner were selected to the AMCC First Team.

The Behrend Lions were the AMCC regular season champions with a record of 9-0-1.  The blue and white fell short in the conference tournament but did advance to the championship game of the ECAC tournament before losing to Swarthmore by a score of 1-0.  The blue and white ended their season with an overall record of 15-4-3.
