Pell Sets School Record on the Weekend; Lions Claim Second at Kenyon

GAMBIER, Oh. – The Penn State Behrend women's indoor track and field team took second out of 10 teams at the Kenyon College Classic on Saturday.

The Lions ended with 87 points for a second place finish, falling Behrend Otterbein with a score of 127 points. Kenyon placed third with 83 points.

On Friday at the Ohio State Elite, Rachel Pell (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) smashed her own school record in the 400m run by one second, running a time of 58.66 for a sixth place finish. Then on Saturday at Kenyon, she took second in the 55m hurdles with a time of 9.01.

In the 4x400 relay, Gabriella Loeffler (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin), Ashlyn Carlsson (Butler, PA/Knoch), Haley Yenchik (Cecil, PA/Canon McMillan), and Pell took first place with an ECAC qualifying time of 4:09.65. Carlsson also competed in the 200m and 500m, qualifying for the ECAC championships in both events. In the 200, she picked up a third place finish with a final time of 27.24, and took fifth in the 500m at a time 1:22.76. In the 400m dash, Loeffler took fifth with a time of 1:04.34.

On Friday at the Ohio State Elite, Yenchik posted her second-best height this season in the pole vault event, jumping at a height 3.46m for 13th place. On Saturday, she took fourth in the pole vault at a height of 3.31m. She then claimed another fourth place finish, but this time in the 200m dash with a time of 27:38. Yenchik also took seventh in the 60m hurdles at 8.35.

Also at Ohio State, Jenna Shelton (Cabot, PA/Knoch) ran the fourth fastest time in indoor history with an ECAC qualifying time of 5:22.17, less than one second shy off the record. She finished in 10th place.

In the 800m, Shelton and Pell took second and fourth, respectively, running the third and fourth fastest times in indoor program history. Shelton ran a time of 2:22.59 while Pell finished at 2:23.88, both good enough to qualify for the ECAC championships.

In the shot put throw, Myeisha Sanders (Erie, PA/East) set a new personal-best with a distance of 10.32m for fourth place.

Behrend is back in action next Friday, February 23. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m.
