Lions Break School Records in First Ever ECAC Championship

NEW YORK, Ny. – The Penn State Behrend women's track and field team won the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships for the first time in program history with a final score of 87.

Jenna Shelton (Cabot, PA/Knoch) posted a personal record, and new Penn State Behrend school record in the mile run, running at a time of 5:12.40 for a third place finish.

In the 4x400m relay, made up of Gabriella Loeffler (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin), Haley Yenchik (Cecil, PA/Canon McMillan), Ashlyn Carlsson (Butler, PA/Knoch), and Rachel Pell (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward), also broke the school record with their fourth place finish and 4:03.82 time. Loeffler ran a split of 63.06, Yenchik at 61.46, Carlsson ran a 62.22, and Pell ended it with a 57.10.

Before this, Pell started the day with a fifth place finish in the 60m hurdles with a 9.42. Then she came back for a second place finish in the 400m dash at 58.92. She ended the day with a 10th place finish in the 200m, running a time of 26.35.

Shelton earned her second All-ECAC performance of the day with a fifth place finish in the 500m. She also competed in the 800m run, taking fifth at a time of 2:25.73.

Savanna Carr (Franklin, PA/Franklin Area) and Riley Crissman (Bradford, PA/Bradford Area) crossed the line at second and fourth place in the 3000m run, respectively, to add 13 team points for the Lions. Carr paced the way with a final time of 10:43.08, while Crissman finished at 10:44.01.

Courtney Sargent (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy), Shelton, and Caitlin Plazony (Fairview, PA/Fairview) go two, four, and five in the 1000m run for All-ECAC. Sargent led the way with a 3:08.50 time, Shelton finished at 3:11.45, and Plazony was not far behind with a final time of 3:11.51.

In the 500m run, Carlsson earned a sixth place finish with a time of 1:25.98. She also ran a personal best time of 27.13 in the 200m, notching an 18th place finish.

The Lions will be back in action for the outdoor season.
