Julie Leininger made her mark on the Behrend women’s tennis program in her two-year career with the Lions. Leininger accomplished feats many do not do over four years. She left behind one of the most outstanding tennis records in the history of Penn State Behrend. She won 39 singles matches, while losing three and captured 31 doubles encounters, losing just one, for an overall 70-4 record.

A two-time AMCC Player of the Year and four-time All-Conference selection, Leininger led Behrend to a pair of AMCC Championships and two undefeated seasons in the conference play.

Leininger wasted no time adjusting to collegiate tennis as she grabbed All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference First Team accolades at No. 1 singles and doubles. She also was named AMCC Player of the Year in her debut campaign. She began to blaze a successful trail as a freshman with a 19-2 singles record (.905 winning percentage) and a 16-1 mark in doubles play. The Lions marched their way to a perfect conference record and their third overall AMCC title.

Leininger was nearly unstoppable during the 2000 tennis season. Remaining at the No. 1 spot, she went undefeated in doubles play (15-0) and was 20-1 in singles action. This performance guaranteed her consecutive AMCC Player of the Year Award. She also doubled her AMCC Player of the Week honors from two to four from the previous year. Behrend repeated as AMCC Champions with an 8-0 conference mark.

Leininger remains Behrend’s career leader in five categories, including single wins in a season, doubles wins in a season, singles winning percentage, doubles winning percentage, doubles winning percentage in a season.
