Casey Ponsoll '04

Casey Ponsoll was arguably the most threatening defensive player for the men’s basketball team from 2000-04. The point guard started every game for four years and is one of 15 players in program history to amass 1,000 points in his career. Ponsoll, an All-AMCC choice as a sophomore, led the Lions to a pair of AMCC Regular-Season Champion titles and ECAC Tournament bids.

Ponsoll quickly made a name for himself by earning a spot in the starting lineup in his first collegiate contest. He stayed there all four years. He finished his freshman campaign ranked fourth on the team in scoring with 9.2 ppg, third in three-pointers (29) and fourth in assists (39).

The next two years, Ponsoll was the driving force to a pair of AMCC Regular-Season Championships and two trips to the ECAC Tournament. In his sophomore season, he reached double-digit scoring with 11.0 points per game while shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor. Ponsoll garnered AMCC honorable-mention honors for an 18-9 team that also produced a 9-3 conference record.

The following year, the Lions returned to the ECAC Championships, defeating Thiel 99-77 in the first round before falling to DeSales. Ponsoll ranked fifth in the AMCC in three-point field-goal percentage, while averaging 8.3 ppg and shooting 86.7 percent from the charity stripe. Behrend was AMCC Regular-Season Champions once again with a 10-2 conference mark.

In his senior year, Ponsoll shot 51.7 percent from the floor and 45 percent from three-point range, knocking down 49 triples and averaging 11.1 points per game to help Behrend advance to the NCAA Tournament and finish with a 22-4 record. Ponsoll led the conference in three-point field-goal percentage (.450) and was third in three-pointers (49). The Lions went a perfect 13-0 at home during the regular season and were first in the nation in scoring defense thanks in part to Ponsoll, allowing 51.9 ppg. They were also ranked 19th in the nation by D3hoops.com.

Ponsoll sits sixth in the record books for three-pointers made (166) and ninth in career free-throw percentage (77.6).
