Brittany Mays was the catalyst for the Penn State Behrend women’s basketball team from 2003-07. As Rookie of the Year in 2003-04, she led the team to the AMCC regular-season title, the AMCC Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Mays earned many team awards in her four years, including MVP two years in a row. She was named Female Athlete of the Year and etched her name in the record book, finishing third in points (1,153), sixth in rebounds (628) and 12th in games played (105).
 
In her freshman year, the Lions posted a 63-41 win over Pitt-Bradford in the AMCC semifinals before defeating Pitt-Greensburg 67-56 in the championship game for the conference title. Behrend advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history. That year, the Lions finished 22-6 and 11-1 in conference play, where their only loss was by one point to Pitt-Greensburg on Jan. 28. 
 
In her sophomore year, Behrend fell in the AMCC semifinals. The Lions tallied a 17-10 overall mark, including 10-4 record at home. Mays started all 23 games, averaging 8.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. 
During her junior campaign, they went 17-10 once again but were 12-3 at home and 7-2 in conference play. Mays ranked third on the team with 10.5 ppg and pulled down a team-leading 6.1 rpg. She shot 45.8 percent from the field in 27 starts. The unselfish player also ranked second in assists with 60. Similar to the year before, the Lions fell in the AMCC semifinals (to Medaille). 
 
In her senior year, the team fell in the AMCC Championships but got the opportunity to play in the ECAC Tournament, falling 72-56 to Moravian in the opening round. They finished 21-6 and 13-2 at home with an unblemished record of 9-0 in the conference. Mays kept her double-digit average in scoring, leading the team with 15.1 ppg and grabbing 7.0 rpg. She was the leading scorer in 15 of the 27 games, knocking down a season-high 23 points in the AMCC semifinals against Pitt-Bradford.
