2006 Softball

The Penn State Behrend softball squad made history by becoming the first team to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The postseason run began with the Lions defeating Pitt-Bradford in game seven of the AMCC Championships to claim their second conference crown.

Behrend finished with a 34-10 overall record and 16-2 mark in conference play. Julie Koman led the Lions in the circle with an astounding 20-5 record and striking out 247 batters. Kristin Macha led the conference with 55 hits for a .470 batting average.

The softball team swept the three major all-conference awards starting with Julie Koman being named AMCC Player and Newcomer of the Year, and Stacy Pondo garnering Coach of the Year. Koman was also named to the All-AMCC first team, along with first base Kristin Macha, second base Nikki Kaschauer, and outfielder Katie Whitby. Designated player Kelly Houghton rounded out the all-conference honors on the second team.
