John Fleming was a member of the Penn State Behrend men’s soccer team from 1973-76. He played in every game during his career, scoring eight goals and dishing out 12 assists. A three-time captain, Fleming earned the White Letter Award and was named Team MVP and Co-Athlete of the Year in his senior campaign. He was also a two-time All-Conference selection and a Regional All-American Honorable Mention. 
 
Fleming was a staple in the midfield for the men’s soccer team, playing 52 games in four years under Coach Herb Lauffer. In his freshman year, he tallied four assists and helped the Lions post a 4-6-2 overall record. Over the next three years, Fleming became the leader for the squad and was the captain of teams that combined for a 22-13-2 record. During his sophomore year, the Lions improved their record by going 6-5-1. Fleming contributed six assists and one goal. He dished out a pair of assists in the win over Youngstown and added two more in a 3-2 victory against Geneva.
 
In 1975, Fleming scored four goals and handed out one assist for an 8-4 team. He tallied two goals in a 7-0 win over Malone and then another two in a 6-0 victory against Youngstown. In his junior and senior years he was an All-Conference selection, earning First Team All-WPISC. 
 
In 1976, Fleming added three more goals to his resume, including the game winner against Fredonia in the season finale. He won the White Letter Award and was named Co-Athlete of the Year, while earning Regional All-America Honorable Mention. Once his playing career ended, he joined the soccer staff at Behrend as a student assistant in 1977.
