Sam Vasy
Vasy was a three-time All-AMCC selection for the Behrend women’s soccer team from 2010-13. The skillful midfielder registered 16 goals and 15 assists for 47 points over her four-year career. In 2010, Vasy was the only freshman to start every game, landing on the All-AMCC Second Team and earning AMCC Newcomer of the Year. During her senior year, she scored nine goals and dished out six assists for 24 points, garnering All-Great Lakes Region Third Team honors. She also helped the Lions capture three straight AMCC Championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances.
The saying in sports is that a great athlete can make those around them better. Vasy, the starting defender turned midfielder, did just that. Her sophomore season, the Lions captured the AMCC title and the seven subsequent years (2011-2018). She helped her teammates achieve success and built a foundation for teammates to follow.
Vasy’s vision and confidence on the field her freshman year shined just as bright as her four-year career. She tied for the team-lead with four assists, while adding two goals and many accolades. Vasy earned the coveted AMCC Newcomer of the Year and was on the All-AMCC Second Team. She helped the team post a 13-7-1 record while advancing to the ECAC playoffs for the seventh time in program history.
Contributing to the Lions’ success in a number of facets, the next three seasons Behrend won three AMCC Championships with Vasy on the team. She was amid that success, scoring 15 goals and handing out 12 assists during those three years.
Vasy rebounded from a season-ending injury her junior year to put together her best season as a senior by earning First Team All-AMCC and NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region Third Team. She ranked third on the team in both goals (9) and points (24). The Lions registered a 15-6-1 record and made their third appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
