Dan Simon was the most decorated student-athlete for the Behrend men’s swimming and diving team from 2011-15. He was the first and only men’s swimmer in program history to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships. Simon was a four-time Scholar All-American, three-time AMCC Swimmer of the Year, three-time All-American Honorable Mention and a three-time Team MVP. His senior season, he earned All-American status for placing fifth at the national championship meet in the 100 backstroke.
Simon’s unparalleled dominance began the moment he stepped on the Behrend pool deck. In his freshman season, he set six school records, two individual (50 backstroke, 100 backstroke) and four relay (200 Free, 400 Free, 200 MR, 400 MR). He was the AMCC Champion in the 100 & 200 backstroke and was named Second Team All-AMCC in the 50 free. Simon capped the season earning CSCAA Scholar All-America honorable mention.
Simon casted a large presence over the Behrend swimming program. In his sophomore season, he became the first men’s swimmer in program history to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships and was named the first-ever All-American Honorable Mention for finishing 12th in the 100 backstroke at NCAA's. Simon was voted Team MVP while the conference tabbed him Co-Swimmer of the Year. He broke nine school records, including five individual records. Simon was the AMCC Champion in seven events, while elevating to CSCAA Scholar All-America first team.
His on-going commitment to excellence was evident in his junior year. The repeat Scholar All-American, Team MVP and Co-Swimmer of the Year, also earned All-American Honorable Mention for finishing ninth in the 100 backstroke at the NCAA Championships. Simon was a five-time AMCC Champion and broke his own record in the 100 backstroke at Nationals.
Simon’s achievements are legendary. In his final year, he placed fifth in the 100 backstroke at Nationals for another All-American nod and followed it with an 11th place finish in the 200 backstroke for Honorable Mention honors. Simon broke eight records at the AMCC Championship and tied for the highest point scorer. He earned his third AMCC Swimmer of the Year honors for winning three individual events and four relays. Simon solidified his four-time championship in the 100 backstroke.
His career is adorned with an extraordinary 21 AMCC gold medals and the coveted Behrend Male Athlete of the Year.
