Andy Lawrence '00

Andy Lawrence was instrumental in the success of the Behrend men’s basketball team from 1995-2000. The four-year starter was a two-time All-AMCC first-team selection for Lions. Lawrence is listed among the all-time best in men’s basketball history, ranking fifth in scoring with 1,296 points, ninth in steals with 109 and 11th in field-goals made with 456.

During the 1996-97 season, he averaged 14.9 ppg and 3.9 rpg to help Behrend earn its first out of three straight bids to the ECAC Tournament. After battling an ankle injury after his sophomore season, Lawrence proved to save his best for last and it showed in his final two years in a Behrend uniform.

In 1998-99, he led the Lions to the AMCC regular-season championship and the program’s first-ever ECAC Division III Southern Title. Lawrence averaged 9.4 ppg and 3.7 rpg to be named to the All-AMCC first team.

Just when the Lions completed the most successful campaign in school history in 1998-99, the following year proved to be the best yet with a school-record 26 wins and first-ever trip to the NCAA "Elite Eight". The senior captain repeated as an All-AMCC first-team choice and finished his career shooting 43.7 percent from the floor and averaging 11.5 points per game.
