ERIE, Pa. – La Roche posted three runs in the seventh inning to beat the Penn State Behrend baseball team 5-4 on Wednesday, to wrap up the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) two-game series.
After battling four innings with the Redhawks (23-8, 12-4 AMCC) a week ago, the Lions (19-10, 11-5 AMCC) returned to the field to finish game two with the score knotted at 2-all.
Entering the game for Behrend in the fifth was pitcher Chad Zurat. Zurat walked the first batter and settled down to strike out two of the next three to finish the inning, 2-2.
On the Lions next turn up to bat, an error on the catcher left Ryan Kragnes standing on third. Geoff Lang gave Behrend a 3-2 lead with an RBI single.
La Roche failed to produce any runs in the sixth inning, going three up, three down for Zurat.
With a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh the Redhawks mounted a one hit, three-run rally en route to a 5-4 victory.
Zurat was credited with the loss after throwing for 2.1 innings, allowing one hit and three runs, while striking out four batters.
