GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team fell to #7 Seton Hill 3-1 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Playing against their first Division II team of the season, the Lions (25-12-1) could not overcome a seventh inning three-run home run.
Ryan Jacobs (Port Vue, PA/South Allegheny) started on the bump for Behrend. Jacobs was brilliant in four innings of work. The junior hurler scattered four hits while not allowing a run. Chad Zurat (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) continued to work well for the Lions on the hill. Zurat matched the Griffins' staff with an inning of scoreless relief.
The pitchers dual continued until the seventh when both teams were finally able to score. The Lions got on the board first. After Matt Bittner (Lancaster, NY/St. Mary's) doubled to start the inning and advanced to third on a wild pitch, Vinny Rice (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley) laid down a perfect bunt to plate Bittner.
Seton Hill had an answer though with one swing of the bat. After the first two hitters of the inning reached base, Josh Logan hit a three-run home run to give the Griffins a 3-1 lead. That would be all the scoring the game would see with Seton Hill keeping Behrend scoreless in their final two at bats.
The Lions will be back in action at #1 Marietta tomorrow at 2 p.m.
