Behrend Baseball Travels to Hiram and Penn State Altoona This Weekend

HIRAM, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend baseball team will play back-to-back doubleheaders on the road this weekend. The Lions face the Hiram Terriers on Saturday before traveling to Penn State Altoona on Sunday.

Behrend News & Notes:

* The Lions opened the season in dramatic fashion, outscoring Pitt-Greensburg 39-8 in a non-conference doubleheader
* Behrend used a combined 37 hits to post double-digit wins last Saturday
* The Lions posted a 21-5 victory in game one and followed that with a 18-3 win
* Behrend registered 10 extra-base hits over the two games and were perfect defensively
* Josh Wagner (South Park, PA/South Park) recorded seven hits, seven RBI and three doubles for a .636 average in against Pitt-Greensburg
* Wagner went 4-for-5 (.800) in game one with four runs, then added three more hits and five RBIs in game two
* Sophomore outfielder Colin Harger (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) added a 5-for-8 performance with five RBIs and a double last weekend
* Junior Zack Bowen (Pittsburgh, PA/Serra Catholic) knocked in the teams first home run of the season in game two vs. the Bobcats

* The Terriers enter the weekend with a 2-2 record
* Hiram swept Pitt-Greensburg to start the season (6-2, 16-12), before falling to Case Western (9-2, 6-5)
* The doubleheader against the Behrend Lions marks the Terriers home opener
* Curtis Caithaml and Michael Corsillo lead the team with five hits apiece
* Hurler Robert James has made two appearances on the mound and collected a win
* James has pitched five innings and struck out six
* Last year, Hiram tallied a 3-5 record on spring break before the season came to a halt
* Head Coach Phil Brua is in his third season with the Terriers
* Brua welcomes 16 freshmen to the squad in 2021

* The Altoona Lions split with Marywood in their season opener on March 11
* The Lions sit at 1-1 overall after taking game one 16-7 and then falling 6-5 in the nightcap
* Altoona is hosting Behrend in its home opener on Sunday
* Freshman utility player Jake Hillard went 4-for-8 with four RBIs, two home runs and a double against Marywood
* Hillard also added three runs and finished with a .444 on-base percentage and a 1.375 slugging percentage
* Freshman right-handed pitcher Cameron Dubbs registered the win on the hill for the Lions vs. Marywood
* Dubbs threw 2.1 innings and did not allow a hit or a run in game one
