FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Kenyon, winning the opener 8-2 and falling in the nightcap 9-1 on the final day of their spring-break trip in Fort Pierce, Florida on Saturday. 

Game One:
Score: Penn State Behrend 8, Kenyon 2
Record: Penn State Behrend (5-5), Kenyon (4-2)

Noteworthy:

* Derrick Shields (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) pitched the entire seven inning game and struck out nine for his first win of the season
* Behrend had two four-run innings to defeat the Lords
* Mac Ciocco (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) and Zac Bogats (Corapolis, PA/Moon) went 2-for-4, each smacking a double
* Daniel Boehme (Peters Township, PA/Seton-LaSalle) tallied two RBIs with a triple in the bottom of the first inning to score the last two runs for a 4-0 lead
* The Lions added four more runs on three hits in the fourth
* With two outs, Behrend loaded the bases, walking the first run in and then Bogats doubled down left-field line to score three more for an 8-0 advantage
* Kenyon added two runs in the sixth for the final margin

Game Two:
Score: Kenyon 9, Penn State Behrend 1
Record: Penn State Behrend (5-6), Kenyon (5-2)

* Kenyon's pitcher Lewis Cooper pitched the seven innings and fanned 12 to help the Lords get their fifth win
* Behrend grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning
* The Lions registered three of their five hits in the first, scoring on Boehme's single up the middle to score Isaac Stouffer (Punxsutawney, PA/Punxsutawney)
* The Lords tallied four runs in the second, two in the third and three in the sixth
* Ethan Tinker (Pittsburgh, PA/Avonworth) was the starting pitcher, going 4.1 innings and allowing five hits and three earned runs in the loss

* The Behrend Lions travel to Muskingum and Olivet next Saturday and Sunday.
