ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend team split the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) opener against La Roche, claiming a 16-2 win in game one and falling 16-6 in game two on Monday.

Final Score: Penn State Behrend 16, La Roche 2
Records: Penn State Behrend (6-8, 1-0 AMCC), La Roche (6-11, 0-1 AMCC)

Game One:

* Behrend tallied seven singles, three doubles and one triple in the first inning alone to generate 14 runs
* La Roche scored one run in the first and one in the seventh, leaving the in between all to the Behrend Lions
* The Lions scored two more runs in the third inning for the final margin
* Derrick Shields (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) registered 10 K's including eight in a row spanning over a pair of innings
* Shields pitched five innings and allowed four hits and one earned run
* All nine batters scored in the first inning after going through the order twice
* Juston Jones (Moon Township, PA/Moon) and Daniel Boehme (Peters Township, PA/Seton LaSalle) each went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs
* Chase Palmer (Brookville, PA/Brookville) smacked the lone triple of game one

* La Roche returned the favor from game one, scoring 16 runs on 14 hits
* The Redhawks tallied a run in every inning except seventh inning
* The game was halted after the eighth inning due to the conference's 10-run rule after seven
* Pitcher Shane Murphy and La Roche kept the Lions scoreless through three innings
* Behrend had a big sixth frame with four runs on four hits
* Isaac Stouffer (Punxsutawney, PA/Punxsutawney) and John Berger (Wexford, PA/Pine Richland) each  had a hit and scored in the fourth
