Five Behrend Student-Athletes Secure AMCC Players of the Week

ERIE, Pa. – Five Penn State Behrend student-athletes have been named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Players of the Week for the week of April 8-14.

Baseball infielder Silvio Ionadi (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) finished the week 13-for-17 for a .765 batting average in six games last week. Ionadi recorded 11 RBI, three triples, three doubles, and 13 runs scored. The second-year infielder went 3-for-3 in three different contests and recorded a .727 average in four conference games (8-for-11), claiming Player of the Week honors.

Sophomore Meghan Petitte (Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) tallied 13 hits, 10 runs, eight RBI, two doubles, two triples and two home runs in a 5-1 week for the Lions, earning AMCC Player of the Week honors. She smacked a home run in each game vs. La Roche. Petitte had multiple hits in all six games this week, going 3-for-3 against Alfred in game one. She walked three times and had a stolen base. Petitte is currently on an eight-game hitting streak.

Men's Track Athlete of the Week went to Aidan Domencic (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) who was victorious in the 3000m steeplechase on Saturday, recording a time of 9:55.40 at the Westminster Invitational.

Senior Samuel Hetrick (New Bethlehem, PA/Redbank Valley) scored a first-place finish at Westminster with an AARTFC qualifying height of 6-4 ¾ in the high jump to notch Field Athlete of the Week.

Fellow senior Madison Kappeler (Cecil, PA/Canon-McMillan) claimed Field Athlete of the Week with a fifth-place finish in the long jump (16-8 ½), an eighth-place finish in the pole vault (10-5 1/4) and a 10th-place finish in the 100m dash (13.18). Kappeler was also a member of the 4x1 relay team that delivered a fourth-place time of 52.04 at the Westminster Invitational.

Behrend track & field is back in action this Thursday at Slippery Rock, while softball returns home this weekend and baseball is on the road for the remainder of the week.
