ALFRED, N.Y. - The Penn State Behrend baseball team split an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) doubleheader at Alfred State on Tuesday.
Game One: Penn State Behrend 8, Alfred State 0 (7 inn.)
Records: Penn State Behrend (21-9, 7-4 AMCC), Alfred State (10-22, 5-6 AMCC)
Key Moments:
* Freshman David Gibson (North East, PA/North East) kicked off the scoring for the Lions with an RBI single in the top of the first
* The Lions tacked on three more runs in the top of the second, thanks to a two-out RBI double from Silvio Ionadi (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) and a two-run homer off the bat of Daniel Boehme (Peters Township, PA /Seton LaSalle)
* This was enough run support for game one starter Jeff Zick (Moon, PA/Our Lady of Sacred Heart). Zick tossed five shutout innings, giving up four hits and striking out six to earn his fifth win of the season
* The fifth-year pitcher ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth but was able to work out of a bases loaded jam
* Behrend extended its lead with four more runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by a Hank Shaffer (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) RBI single and Anthony Slate (Hopewell, PA/Hopewell) RBI double
* Joe Lang (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) shut down the final two innings, allowing only one hit in relief
* Boehme tallied a game-high three hits and two runs scored, while he and Ionadi each drove in two runs

* The Pioneers registered their first runs of the afternoon with a leadoff homer from Joshua Gardner and scoring on a Behrend error to take a 2-0 lead
* The Lions responded with three runs in the second inning, recording runs on an RBI double from Shaffer and a two-run home run off the bat of Thomas Nicely (Delmont, PA/Franklin Regional)
* Tyler Korsky tied the score up for Alfred State with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth
* Gardner gave the Pioneers the lead once again in the sixth inning with his second long ball of the game
* In the top of the eighth, Ionadi knotted the score up again with a solo home run for Behrend
* Alfred State's third round-tripper of the second game broke the tie once again, giving them a one-run lead heading into the ninth inning
* Caden Fortunato closed out the Pioneers game two victory with a scoreless ninth for his second save of the season
* Slate finished with a team-high two hits, while Nicely delivered two RBIs for the Lions
* Alfred State was led by Gardner's two hits and two runs batted in
