Behrend Falls At Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team could not get past Allegheny Thursday evening, falling by a score of 8-3.

Key Moments:

* Neither team could get much going in the first three innings with only a combined two hits
* Allegheny broke the scoreless tie with a five-run fifth inning. The big blow in the frame was a two-out bases clearing double from Garrett Lienhard
* Back-to-back two-out singles by the Lions in the top of the sixth set up RBI singles for Thomas Nicely (Delmont, PA/Franklin Regional) and David Gibson (North East, PA/North East) to cut the deficit to two (5-2)
* The Gators got those two runs back in the bottom half of the inning, but Behrend reliever Jake Manendo (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) was able to control the damage by getting out of the inning with a bases loaded strikeout
* A Dylan Barnes (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh bounced Allegheny starter Dawson Thomas from the game
* Once again, the Gators responded in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single Tyson Bryant-Dawson to help secure their ninth victory of the season
* Daniel Boehme (Peters Township, PA/Seton LaSalle) went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Lions, while Silvio Ionadi (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) and Mac Ciocco (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) each recorded two hits
* Thomas tossed 6.2 innings to go along with three runs and two strikeouts to earn his first win of the season for Allegheny. At the plate, Lienhard tallied two hits and three runs batted in
