Mounties Edge Lions in Double Overtime

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's basketball team fell to Mt. Aloysius 99-97 in double overtime on Saturday afternoon in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action.

The Lions (4-2, 2-1 AMCC) dropped their first AMCC game despite draining a season-high 13 threes.

Behrend found themselves up by one at half after shooting just 33.3 percent compared to 41.9 percent by the Mounties.  The Lions made up the difference at the charity stripe, connecting on 12-of-16 free throws.

Much like the first half, the second 20 minutes saw much of the same with the two teams trading buckets.  After a made layup at the 16-minute mark, the Mounties held on to a slim 47-44 lead.  Rob Zewe (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) sparked the Behrend offense with five straight points.  Zane Hackett (Brookville, PA/Brookville) followed with a layup and Keith Wallace (Erie, PA/Central Tech) made a three and suddenly the Lions were up by eight.

Mt. Aloysius was not going quietly though.  The Mounties battled back and with 13 seconds left were only down three.  Demetrius Davis came through in the clutch with a three to tie the game and force overtime.

In the first overtime session it was Behrend who had to come back.  The Lions were down six with less than two minutes to play until Adam Palcic (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Central Catholic) hit two free throws.  A made Mt. Aloysius layup pushed the lead back to six but Behrend found their range from beyond the arc.  Russ Conley (Transfer, PA/Reynolds) and Nick DeLisio (Aliquippa, PA/Central Valley) made back-to-back threes to force double overtime.

The Mounties once again jumped out to a quick lead.  The seconds were ticking away and the Lions were down 98-93.  With 20 seconds left, DeLisio fired a three, making the basket while being fouled for a four-point play.  Mt. Aloysius went 1-of-2 from the free throw line to give Behrend one last shot.  The Lions final attempt fell short, giving the Mounties the thrilling win.

Conley led Behrend with a career-high 30 points and 13 rebounds.  DeLisio chipped in 18 while Palcic netted 13.  Zewe also had a career-high with 11 points.

The Lions will return to action on Thursday at Medaille.  Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
