ERIE, Pa. – Four Penn State Behrend men's basketball players scored in double figures en route to helping the Lions defeat red hot Pitt-Greensburg 76-45 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats entered the game with back-to-back victories over La Roche and first place Mt. Aloysius, but the stingy Lions' defense held Pitt-Greensburg to just 36.0 percent shooting from the field while forcing 17 turnovers.
With the scored tied at 11-all midway through the opening stanza, Behrend was finally able to run away from the Bobcats. Pat St. Andrews (State College, PA/State College) and Russ Conley (Transfer, PA/Reynolds) capped a 19-6 run with consecutive layups, giving the Lions a 30-17 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Behrend offense continued to stay hot. The Lions pushed the advantage to 47-24 after Shane Skelly (Westlake, PA/Westlake) converted an old-fashioned three-point play. By the 7:28 mark, Behrend had now built up a 27-point lead. With the game well in-hand, the Lions were still able to increase the lead. Behrend got up by as many as 33 before settling for the 31-point victory.
Skelly led all scorers with a season-high 14 points. Keith Wallace contributed 12 points with St. Andrews and Conley registering 11 and 10 points, respectively. St. Andrews added a career-high seven rebounds as well.
The Lions will be back in action on Wednesday to host D'Youville at 8 p.m.
