Lions Notch Road Win, Defeat Hilbert, 73-52

HAMBURG, N.Y. - Zane Hackett (Brookville, PA/Brookville) scored 19 points as the Penn State Behrend men's basketball team defeated Hilbert 73-52 Monday night. Hackett has been on fire recently and made 9-of-10 shots from the field while grabbing nine rebounds in a tough road test for Behrend.

In a battle between top teams in the conference, the Lions (14-2, 8-1 AMCC) emerged victorious and extended their winning streak to three games. Behrend shot the ball well once again netting 48.3 percent of their shots and shooting 50 percent from behind the arc on 16 attempts.

After trailing for most of the first half, Wes Davic (Grafton, OH/Midview) hit a layup at the 6:03 mark that sparked a scoring burst for the Lions before the end of the first frame. Behrend scored 10 points in the final six minutes of the half and took a 31-26 lead to the locker room.

The Lions continued their strong play out of the break and scored the first 10 points of the second half to take a 15-point advantage. Hackett notched six points in the half's first 2:04 while Keith Wallace (Erie, PA/Central Tech) and Nick DeLisio (Aliquippa, PA/Central Valley) added buckets of their own during the run. DeLisio finished the game with 17 points and five assists while sniping 5-of-7 three-point attempts.

The Behrend defense continued to overwhelm Hilbert as the Lions built a 22-point lead with 14:29 remaining in the game. Behrend capitalized on mistakes scoring 24 points off of Hilbert turnovers and notched 14 second-chance points. Davic earned a double-double for the third straight game finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Mike Knoll (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) and Connor McLaughlin (Ashtabula, OH/Edgewood) combined to score 15 points off of the Behrend bench. Knoll was a perfect 4-of-4 from the field for eight points. McLaughlin added seven points four assists and three rebounds.

The Lions put their winning streak to the test Thursday for another road conference match-up against D'Youville. Opening tip is at 8 p.m.
